In the beginning I looked around me and wanted to paint and draw exactly what I saw. I looked at the works of M. C Escher and Norman Lindsay and saw detail, precision and talent that I dreamed of being able to produce myself. At the age of twelve with nothing special in my heart or mind, a teacher looked at me and saw a raw talent that she began to nurture. Her influence is still within my work. Earlier I was influenced by such classic artists as Turner, Toulouse-Lautrec and Van Gogh. Later as I’ve moved through life and witnessed so much more I look at artists such as Sally Morgan and Norval Morrisseau who’s incredible use of color and design capture the essence of their surroundings. I aim to try and do the same.

I could argue that I paint because I can but that’s not it. I create because there is so much beauty in the world that I cannot help but be inspired but it’s more than that. It’s taking a sight or an emotion and transferring into an image of my own. It’s taking bold and fantastic colors and arranging them in such a way that the essence of the subject almost explodes off the canvas.

My drawings are my meditation, I am soothed by the action of putting pen to paper and witnessing the evolution that occurs. My paintings are emotion, bold, brilliant and striking. My art is nothing more and nothing less than an extension of myself and I hope that it continues to grow as I will. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
